Kimberly Holman 146AW CHANNEL ISLANDS AIR NATIONAL GUARD STATION -- It was 1989 when the 146th Airlift Wing first opened its gates to what was then the newest "state-of-the-art" facility in California. Almost 30 years later now the wing's dining facility, affectionately known as the Channel Islands Café, has just undergone a much-needed facelift. Members of the Force Support Squadron held a small ribbon cutting ceremony this morning to celebrate the new look. "We have new chairs, tables, and the floors look like bamboo, but it's actually laminate," said Senior Master Sgt. Neil Bulatao, Services Squadron Superintendent. "The Wing Headquarters also donated one of their nice flat-screened TVs for people to watch while they have lunch." The renovations started the Monday after drill in February, and the project was just completed last night at about 1700, explained Capt. Corey Porter, Services Squadron Officer in Charge. "We still hope to have new canned LED lighting as well to complete the new updated look," Porter said.
