Be sure to check out all the great information and new stories on the webpage! 146th AES assist with transport of Libyan rebels The 146th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron currently has several members deployed to Ramstein, Germany, and very recently some of these deployers were tasked with what they were told was a "secret mission" that would be going to Libya. Capt Kelly Khamkongsay, a flight nurse with the 146th AES, recounted the mission and shared with us many photos that she took along this journey to bring medical assistance to Libyan rebels. This bill gives the military child precious time with loved ones before they go off to serve. Free online tutoring available for military members and their families! Tutor.com has expanded their eligibility! All Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve members and their families, regardless of their deployment status, are now eligible to access the program at http://www.tutor.com/military The Tutor.com for U.S. Military Families program gives eligible military families access to free online tutoring and free homework help from live, professional tutors in more than 16 subjects - at no cost. Tutor.com is not just for your K-12. The tutors help K-12 students, college students, and service members going back to school or through a career transition. K-12 students can get help in more than 16 academic subjects, including algebra, chemistry, calculus, and physics. Adult learners can get back-to-school and career help, including GED prep and resume writing. Scholarships available to military members and their families The Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) is pleased to offer $1000 scholarships each year to United States Service members and spouses of Service members who are working towards the completion of higher education degrees. All applicants must submit the CCME Military Personnel Scholarship Application or the CCME Military Spouse Scholarship Application The deadline for the scholarship applications is 1 November 2011. The Eligibility Requirements are as follows: CCME Joe King Scholarship (5 awards) Applicants must: * be a uniformed service member (active, reserves, guard) * be currently enrolled in an educational program at regional or national accredited institution and is a member institution of CCME * have a minimum of 12 or more hours (units) with a cumulative 2.0 GPA (undergraduate); minimum 12 or more hours (units) with a cumulative 3.0 GPA (graduate) * submit an unofficial college or university transcript * submit two (2) letters of recommendation to be completed by persons unrelated to applicant, who will attest to their motivation, character, integrity and educational pursuit. Marriage seminar available for military members and their spouses Nov 19-20 Marriage Enrichment Seminar - San Diego There are 15 slots available for the November's Marriage Enrichment Seminar in San Diego. The purpose of the seminar is to coach couples on how to communicate effectively, work as a team to solve problems, manage conflicts without damaging closeness, and preserve and enhance love, commitment, and friendship. First nationwide test of EAS due to take place next week The first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, or EAS, will take place at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time on November 9, 2011. The broadcasters, along with FEMA and the FCC, have been working hard to ensure both the success of the test AND that the public is informed and fully aware in advance. However, no matter how much outreach is conducted, or how plain the language is that accompanies the test alert, it's likely that when the test is initiated, some of our personnel may be confused and feel compelled to contact police, fire, or other emergency services. Military children help decorate the White House for the holidays First Lady Michelle Obama is asking military children from around the globe for some personal contributions to the finishing touches on the White House decorations this holiday season. The request is for military children to submit 5x8" handmade holiday cards with words of appreciation for their military parents, as well as pictures and drawings. The White House will display as many of the cards as possible.
