Candice Page 146th Airlift Wing CHANNEL ISLANDS AIR NATIONAL GUARD STATION, Calif. -- A 146th Airlift Wing Security Forces Airman was recognized recently at the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce Annual Military Appreciation Dinner. Staff Sgt. Jesus Cazares, 146th Airlift Wing unit training manager, and his family attended the annual event that honors service members from each branch in the local area for their outstanding achievements. Many local elected officials were also in attendance to help celebrate the service members. Cazares, who was born and raised in Oxnard, shared this special moment with his mom, two brothers and fiancé. He received five certificates during the evening from The Congress, The Senate, City of Camarillo, City of Oxnard and City of Port Hueneme. Cazares joined the Air National Guard in September 2004. He currently serves as the unit training manager and is responsible for 75 Security Forces members. Cazares recently deployed to Ukraine where he was handpicked to attend. During his time there he organized and trained 15 Ukrainian military members, which is a responsibility vital to sustaining the State Partnership Program between the United States and Ukraine, he explained. "I am really grateful that my leadership nominated me for this award," said Cazares. "I was able to bring my family with me and it meant a lot to them. I have a really strong support system at home and without them the military career and military life isn't possible." Maj. Chris Lowe, 146th AW Security Forces commander, and many other 146th AW leaders were also there to support Cazares. "Staff Sgt. Cazares has a stellar commitment to his duties and performs at a senior enlisted member level," said Lowe. "We were all very privileged and proud as he received this recognition."
