The Air National Guard Airman and Family Readiness program provides assistance, guidance, and support that enhances the quality of life for service members and their families during peacetime and upon mobilization. This includes personal, financial, family, and community readiness, deployment cycle support, crisis intervention, transition assistance, outreach, training, management, information, referral and follow-up, life skills education, review and analysis of program effectiveness, and volunteer program management.
Boys & Girls Club of America: There is a partnership between Joint Military Services and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, providing free club membership to National Guard, Reserve and Active Duty children who do not live near or have access to a military Youth Center. Congratulations on your upcoming transition into civilian life or coming off T-10 orders for more than 180 days. In order to best assist you with your transition you will be required to attend the 146th Airlift Wing Transition Program (TAP GPS).
John McCain 2019 NDAA TAP is required in order to ensure that you will be well prepared for your transition. TAP is for all service members within 24 to 13 months from Date of Separation (DOS); NO LATER than 365 days from DOS.
The first step is scheduling a one on one Individualized Transition Assessment/Counseling appointment (TAP-IC). At that appointment individuals will be scheduled for the Pre-Separation Counseling & Managing Your TAP briefings. Based on the TAP assessment, individuals will also be scheduled for mandatory VA Benefits & Services Briefing, DOD TAP- Financial Planning & MOC Gap Analysis, and 1-day Dept of Labor (DOL) Fundamentals to Employment Workshop. Additional scheduling will be for 2 days of Employment Track, Vocational Track, Education Track AND/OR Entrepreneurship Track.
3-Day TAP Curriculum Workshop
This multi-day course provides members with information and skills needed for a successful transition. This workshop is broken down as follows:
Day 1: DOD Transition Day - This portion of TAP includes curriculum modules on building resiliency by managing your own transition (My Transition), a Military Occupational Code Crosswalk to help define and translate military skills and the Financial Plan for Transition module, which fulfills the mandated financial literacy requirement. (Required for all – no exemptions)
Day 2: VA Benefits and Services (Required for all – no exemptions)
Day 3: DOL Employment Fundamentals of Career Transition (EFCT) – Some exemptions apply
This workshop is facilitated by briefings given by the A&FRC, Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Labor.
146th Airlift Wing Military Life Cycle (MLC): Channel Islands Air National Guard members receive the Transition GPS curriculum at key touch points throughout their Military Life Cycle (MLC). This allows Guard members the time within their military career to plan for their civilian career. Most importantly, it provides the resources to assist them in planning and aligning their military career goals with their civilian career goals. The curriculum is also available to spouses during the Guard member's transition planning.
Medical Benefits: If a guard member is ordered to active duty (Title 10) in support of a contingency operation for more than 30 consecutive days, family members may be covered under TRICARE for up to 180 days before the member reports to active duty and up to 180 days following release from active duty. Airmen required to update AFPAAS Bi-Annually
All Airmen are required to verify their contact information in the Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (AFPAAS) Bi- Annually:
To do this, go to https://AFPAAS.af.mil. Select "Click Here" under the "Airmen/Civilian" heading and then log-in using your CAC card. Once logged in, select the "My Info" tab and then “Contact Information.” Review your data, edit as needed, and then select “Verify Info as Current.” This must also be done for each dependent in the “Family Member Info” section. Members should also address any discrepancies by updating their information in DEERS, via the MilConnect Portal: https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect.
AFPAAS standardizes the method for the Air Force to account, assess, manage, and monitor the recovery and reconstitution process for personnel and their families affected and/or scattered by a wide-spread catastrophic event.
In the event of an exercise or real world event, 146th Airlift Wing personnel and family members may be required to report their status in AFPAAS. Additionally, family members may account for themselves by accessing AFPAAS, changing the log-in option to “Personal Information” and using their sponsor’s SSN, date of birth and last name to log in. All personnel should remain cognizant of their AFPAAS reporting requirements, listed in AFI 36-3803, Personnel Accountability in Conjunction with Natural Disasters or National Emergencies, Section 2.8.
If you plan on leaving the area, please update your AFPAAS account prior to leaving and upon returning.
