CHANNEL ISLANDS AIR NATIONAL GUARD STATION, Calif. -- 4:45 AM and the Tailgaters are off to Park City, Utah. It was about an hour drive and, as usual, I slept the whole way there. During the Tailgaters performance at Hill Air Force Base, a fellow National Guard member Joe Davis, who also happens to be the host of a TV show, approached the Tailgaters and asked them to be on his show. That's how they landed this awesome gig.

When we arrived at the Park City Television Station, Joe explained how the show was going to go and they waited for their cue to go on the stage. Joe interviewed the commander, Capt. Vu Nguyen and Mater Sgt. Gerald Lockwood; then the Tailgaters began to play. Altogether, the members played a total of four songs spread throughout the show. Joe liked them so much he gave them an open invitation to come back whenever they were in town again and he even invited the whole band to join them next time! They wouldn't be able to fit all of them in the studio so I think he had a plan for them to stand outside on the deck. How awesome! This was also worth losing a little sleep over!

This evening's performance was at the Draper City Amphitheater in Draper City, Utah. The show started off a little rocky with some technical difficulties when the microphone stopped working right when the band was being introduced during the first song. Being the true professionals they are, the band maintained their composer and kept playing. After that first hiccup, the band was good to go for the rest of the night.

In the background of this performance there was a projector screen behind the whole band, which looked really cool. They had a moving picture of the American flag waving in the wind. I think that added a lot to the performance, especially when it started getting dark. Tomorrow is a fairly easy day for us with just one performance in the evening, which means this girl can finally sleep in! Another great day for the Air National Guard Band of the West Coast!
