Colonel Paul Hargrove is the Commander of the 146th Airlift Wing located at Channel Islands Air National Guard Station, Port Hueneme, Calif. A member of the wing since 1992, he is a command pilot with more than 3300 flying hours in T-37, T-38, C-130E, C-130H and C-130J aircraft. He is a fully mission qualified instructor, flight examiner, and a modular airborne fire fighting system (MAFFS) instructor. 

In 1985 Colonel Hargrove entered the U.S. Air Force and attended officer training school (OTS) at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. After receiving his commission, he attended undergraduate pilot training (UPT) at Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, Texas. He graduated in June 1986 and was assigned as a T-37 instructor pilot to the 85th Flight Training Squadron at Laughlin AFB. In March 1990 he attended squadron officer school (SOS) in residence at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. He was assigned as a C-130H pilot at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas in July 1990. He served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991, flying out of Mildenhall AFB in England and Al-Kharj AB in Saudi Arabia. After the Gulf War, he left active duty and joined the 146th Airlift Wing in January 1992. He was hired by United Airlines in November 1992 and has type ratings in 737,747,757, and 767 aircraft. He has over 11,000 hours combined military and commercial aviation flying time. He served as squadron commander of the 115th Airlift Squadron from February 2003 to September 2007. He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2003 to December 2003 at Al-Udeid AB in Qatar. He served as the 146th Operations Group commander from September 2007 to August 2008. 

Colonel Hargrove graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts from California State University, San Bernardino. He has completed Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College in 1990, 2002, and 2006 respectively. 

Colonel Hargrove's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Aerial Achievement Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with three oak leaf clusters, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the GWOT Expeditionary Medal, and the GWOT Service Medal.
