Our very own Staff Sgt. Carlos Puga, Air Transportation Journeyman with
Small Air Terminal Operations, is California's newest Outstanding Airman of
the Year. Currently deployed with Operation Enduring Freedom, Puga was
unable to accept the award personally at this year's ceremony. However,
beaming with pride, Command Chief Rick Onsgard stepped on stage to accept
the weighty Minuteman statue on Puga's behalf.

The 2013 Outstanding Airman of the Year Awards Banquet was held Jan. 17,
2014 at the Grand Sheraton in Sacramento for the second year in a row. All
nominees selected from Air and Army National Guard units across the state of
California filled the grand ballroom along with several hundred
representatives, both green and blue.

Puga has an astounding and extensive list of accomplishments, and he is
known by his coworkers for his leadership and outstanding work ethic. He
currently is working as a HAZMAT inspector with Operation Enduring Freedom.
Top of his class for all military education time and again, highly involved
in his community, Puga's commitment and service before self in all he does
earned him the title of California's Outstanding Airman of the Year.
