Members of the 146th Airlift Wing,

I would like to introduce myself as our wing' s IG, also known as the Inspector General, and offer my assistance regarding the Installation Inspector General Complaints Resolution Program.

Below is an outline provided to explain what the IG's office can do for you:

a. IG Responsibilities
     i. Educate wing members of their rights within the Air Force IG system
     ii. Provide complaints resolution program
     iii. Reporting fraud, waste, and abuse of government assets
     iv. Independent and objective review of grievances
     v. Provide recommendations in accordance with AFI 90-301
b. IG Role
     i. Confidential advisor and fact-finder to the Commander
     ii. Maintaining a distinction as an extension of the Commander and the sworn duty to serve as a fair, impartial, and objective fact-finder and problem solver
     iii. Share observations, findings, trends, and requests for assistance
c. IG Policies
     i. Receive complaints from any source
     ii. Create atmosphere of trust without fear of retaliation
     iii. Attempt to resolve complaints at lowest level possible
d. Complaints Resolution Process
     i. All complaints are welcome and will be reviewed, assisted, or referred as needed
     ii. Most grievances can be resolved within the chain of command
     iii. Complaints must be filed within 60 days of knowledge of the alleged infraction
e. Appropriate for the IG System
     i. Restriction: No person may restrict a member of the Armed Forces in communicating with a Member of Congress or an Inspector General
     ii. Reprisal: Taking (or threatening to take) an unfavorable personnel action, or withholding (or threatening to withhold) a favorable personnel action, for making (or preparing to make) a protected communication
            1. Protected Communication: any lawful communication made by a member of the Armed Forces to Congress or an IG, regardless of the subject, OR any lawful communication the member reasonably believes evidences a violation of law, regulation, gross mismanagement or waste of funds, abuse of authority, or a substantial and specific danger to public health or safety made to any person of a DoD audit, inspection, law enforcement agency, or chain-of-command
     iii. Mental Health Evaluation: insure proper process is executed for referring (emergency and non-emergency) a member to a mental health provider
     iv. Fraud, Waste, and Abuse: observation or knowledge of mismanagement of government funds, personnel, equipment, or resources
