Air Force officials eliminate exception to short-tour credit
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz approved rescinding a temporary policy established in 2003 that allowed Airmen to receive short-tour credit for overseas TDYs of at least 181 consecutive days. The effective date of the new policy will be announced at a later date.

Although the policy change primarily affects Airmen who deploy to a hostile fire or imminent danger pay area, it also affects a small number of Airmen serving TDY in certain remote areas. Go to http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123252966 for more information.


VA/DOD Smart Phone App Helps Veterans Manage PTSD
Veterans dealing with symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can turn to their smart phones for help anytime with the PTSD Coach application created by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense.

PTSD Coach lets users track their PTSD symptoms, links them with local sources of support, provides accurate information about PTSD, and teaches helpful individualized strategies for managing PTSD symptoms at any moment. The free PTSD Coach app is now available for download from the iTunes store and will be available for Android devices by the end of the spring. Armed Forces Appreciation Night at Toyota Speedway
Toyota Speedway in Irwindale will be presenting the Armed Forces Appreciation Night on May 21st. All current and retired Military Personnel will be admitted free of charge and Toyota Speedway will be offering one dollar hot dogs and two dollar draft beer. The Air National Guard/Lindsay Engineering # 62 NASCAR late model will be participating in the Auto Club Late Model Main Event as well as The 146th Airlift Wing will provide a fly-over during the National Anthem piloted by Lt. Col. Brian Kelly. The 146th recruiters will be in the Chalet area with driver of the Air National Guard # 62 Darren Cheek signing autographs at 5pm. An on track autograph session with all the drivers will be held from 5:45 until 6:30 with the start of racing at 7pm following the fly-over. Any additional information pertaining to the event as well as directions to the speedway can be found at www.toyotaspeedwayatirwindale.com

NGAC Scholarship now taking Applications
NGAC wants to help you pursue your dream of obtaining a college degree. Whether you are a first time college student or adult returning to school to get bachelors, masters PhD or technical certification you may qualify for The National Guard Association of California Scholarship. CNG Educational Assistance Award Program accepting applications
The California National Guard Educational Assistance Award Program is accepting applications for the 2011-2012 academic year. New applicants must complete online the FASFA application, complete online the EAAP application, download, print and sign the Statement of Understanding and have it signed by their commander before applying. Renewal applicants need to submit a "Renewal Statement of Understanding" and renewal application. Last day for applications for renewal applicants is June 1 and the last day of applications for new applicants is June 15. For more information visit www.calguard.ca.gov/education

146th Airlift Wing and Ventura County locals respond to the death of Bin Laden
The Ventura County Star interviewed several local citizens as well as the 146th Commander Col. Paul Hargrove and Col. Lou Danner on how the death of Osama bin Laden has affected them and what this means to the community. To check out the full story please visit

What has 562nd Band been up to lately!
On April 17, Tech Sgt. Erin McPherson sang the National Anthem for a huge crowd at the Toyota Grand Prix. There were over 500,000 people in attendance and it was nationally televised! She did an awesome job and represented the USAF with the utmost professionalism, skill and enthusiasm! She even had a little fun meeting the Grand Marshal, Gordon Ramsey, the famous chef. Later this Month, the 562nd AF Band will be performing as part of the Memorial Day events planned in Westlake Village on May 30. This will be a day of patriotic celebration and remembrance.
