January Featured Airman of the Month Published Jan. 6, 2012 By Senior Airman Ashley Ramirez 146th Airlift Wing CHANNEL ISLANDS AIR NATIONAL GUARD STATION, Calif. -- The first Featured Airman of the Month for 2012 is Senior Airman Edwin Ramos. Being in the military for over 13 years has taught him to live by the core values and work hard to achieve your goals. Congratulations and thank you for your service Senior Airman Ramos! 1. What is your job title? Material Handler/Individual Protective Equipment Custodian. 2. What are some of your duties? Identify a 146th member's mobility bag and individual protective equipment requirements. Process and approve customer requests for mobility bag requirements, requisition mobility bag assets. Develop and conduct Mobility Inventory Control Accountability System (MICAS) training to assigned personnel and unit mobility managers. Serve as a technical advisor to the Wing Commander, staff, and base personnel regarding mobility assets. 3. When did you enlist in the Air Force? January 2006. 4. How long have you been in the service? I have been with the Air National Guard for almost 6 years. I was originally on Active Duty with the U.S. Navy for 4 years and then transferred over to U.S. Navy Reserves for 3 years. 5. What motivated you to enlist in the Air Force? To be a part of the world's greatest Air Force. 6. How has being an Airman changed your point of view on life? The Air Force has given me a strong foundation and a strengthened my work ethics. Being an Airman, I understand better what "Integrity First" means. I strongly believe that with this trait, I will become a better Airman/person and can be a role model to my peers. 7. What's the most important lesson you've learned in the military? One of the many significant lessons I learned since I joined the military is the willingness to make personal sacrifices. There are times that we need to set aside our personal goals in order to accomplish the unit's mission. 8. What is your favorite part/memory about the Air Force? One of my favorite memories since I joined the Air National Guard was during the preparation for the 2009 ORI. It was a lot of hard work and long hours, but it gave me a chance to work with everybody as a part of an awesome team and get to know a little bit more about everybody that I worked alongside. 9. If you could deploy anywhere in the world, where would you go? Germany or anywhere in Europe. I have travelled everywhere in Asia and I would love to see the other side of the world. 10. If you could choose any Air Force job, which would it be? Why? I would love to be a pilot and see the world from up above. I remember when I was kid, I had this fascination with different types of planes and I would like to find out what it feels like to fly one. 11. Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in the Philippines. My family and I immigrated here in 1996 and considered this great country as my home ever since. 12. What is your civilian job? I am currently holding an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) position with 146th LRS Mobility Section. I used to work as a government contractor at Port Hueneme Naval Base for 7 years as a Logistic Specialist. 13. What are your hobbies? Hiking and being outdoors on the weekends. Camping with my family and friends. 14. What would people be surprised to know about you? I love to listen and sing along to country songs. People always have this surprised look on their face whenever they hear me jamming to country music.
